Our educational concept

Three major developments are challenging our traditional understanding of school.

  • The AI revolution is opening up possibilities we could scarcely have imagined. Yet careless use threatens young people’s developing ability to think.
  • Digital content is available at all times, offering endless opportunities for discovery. At the same time, the flood of images and information leaves little room for calm.
  • Social media connect people. Excessive use, however, carries the risk of isolation and loneliness.

In response, St. Anna Colleg is developing its educational concept.
The key elements of this new direction are:

  • A compulsory full-day programme from the 2027/28 school year
  • No use of personal digital devices during the school day
  • New approaches to learning without AI
  • Establishing a school library

Through these changes, St. Anna Colleg aims to safeguard students’ personal development and give them greater opportunities to:

  • develop their capacity for critical, independent thought;
  • find the calm to focus on one thing, free from digital distractions;
  • spend more time with fellow students, including during breaks.

From the 2027/28 school year, St. Anna Colleg will move from a flexible full-day model to a compulsory full-day programme. Students will generally be on campus during the following hours:

  • Monday to Thursday from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm
  • and Friday until 2:15 pm

This additional time together is not simply an extension of the conventional school day. There will be time to practise, deepen understanding and work independently, as well as for physical activity, reading, conversation and rest.

From the 2026/27 school year, personal smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and similar electronic devices will not be used during the school day. Where digital technology is needed for lessons or examinations, the necessary equipment will be provided in an environment controlled by the school.

Written homework and presentations prepared at home will become a thing of the past. Instead, St. Anna Colleg is developing new ways of learning. All work will take place at school, within set periods of time, and without access to artificial intelligence. The guiding principle is simple: only by thinking for yourself can you develop your mind.

The school library will offer more than reference works and books on school subjects. It will also include novels, biographies, historical accounts, crime fiction and other engaging, well-written literature.

The collection will be carefully selected and continually developed. What matters is not whether a book directly serves a teaching purpose, but whether its language, subject matter or ideas have something to offer, and whether it can awaken curiosity and a love of reading.
